Last weekends started a little rough, but then I went costume shopping with my dad and it was nice. I'd say I'm about 85% done, since I still need the hat and some patterns on the poncho. I think some sewing is going to be in order. You know what else makes everything better? Food. (And seriously, Legal Seafood is the greatest restaurant ever. You get some swordfish, and some snap peas, and that yummy rice with the peppers in it... And pretty much they just give it to you like that, without all of that fancy shit you don't want. :3)

Before I say anything: Ben & Jerry's Smores ice cream is the best damn ice cream ever.

This is one of those long commentaries that really bear no meaning to anyone else, but I enjoy looking back on sometimes. )

So I want to post about NaNo and stuff, and also a few more thoughtful comments on MGS4, and I keep looking for that theme for Old Snake but with the trumpets... Anyway. I'll get to that later.

The fact that it is Talk Like A Pirate Day has been overridden by the completion of MGS4. To put it simply, Echo and I had a brief exchange when it was all over with, asking how many times we started crying. Twice on my end, with an almost third time.

Oh. My. God.

Kojima.

*sigh* Of course there are spoilers. It's the end, after all. )

So yeah. *sigh*

"Echo, how many times have I sighed since we finished?" "A bunch."

Sorry, it's late and I'm not very coherent. I'll probably talk more about it later, especially because I have a week post I want to make about all kinds of things, so I'll get back to it.

*sigh*

So today I rewatched both Hellboy movies with my dad, though it was the first time he had seen them. (In the end all he cared about was that the guy who does Krauss' voice also does Stewie, which is hilarious to think about, but typical of my dad.)

Anyway, at the beginning, I had a vauge idea that for some reason I liked the second one better... And oh my God I like the second one so much better. That is to say, I don't dislike the first one, I just find the second one to be so much more engaging and- may I say it?- endearing. I was looking for the video of Abe and Hellboy singing bad love songs and getting drunk, but I can't find it on Youtube. Also, I've said it once and I'll say it again: Abe/Nuala OTP.

And athough we all know how much I love Abe, I realized that I really like Krauss, too. I think it might just be his woobie-ness and his I-Need-A-Hug-Because-My-Wife-Died-And-Now-I'm-Not-Solid-Anymore angst, but... He's really cute, with his accent, and beating up Hellboy like, 'na na na na na~" And even in the end when he quits with everyone else, he's just so great. "You can suck my ectoplasmic Schwanzstücke!"

Also, one last thing. Why is it that when Raiden jumps and spins around with his flowing blonde hair and his shiny sword, we think he's ridiculous, and when Prince Nuada does it, it's cool? Just think about that.

"Why I Oughtta..."

SLAAAADE

This is why I like being at my dad's without Andrew. We get to do a whole mess of awesome things.

So basically, we watched Silent Hill, and then yesterday I saw the Hellboy 2 disc in the computer room, and I was all, "Oh, we should watch that" because *psht* it's Hellboy, geez. But he hadn't seen the first one, apparently, and he didn't have it, but George did, so we went to call him up. So we basically went on a joint shopping trip to Best Buy, because I guess he needed to get one of those fancy calculators for Caroline, and while we were there... :3 Well we also picked up the Dollhouse DVD and PROFESSOR LAYTON 2, OH WHAT NOW~

I know Echo's copy has a waiting list, so I figured I would get my own and not plug up the works with my procrastination. I'M SO PUMPED.

Phoenix Wright spoilers ahead! Abbey, this applies to pretty much you. )

A word to the wise: PLAY THE PHOENIX WRIGHT GAMES IN ORDER.

Anyway, I noticed something interesting. When talking to each other, half the things that come out of either George's or my dad's mouth are quotes from something, or some kind of fandom reference. They pretty much share the same fandoms, because if George finds something awesome, he shows it to my dad, and my dad thinks it's awesome, and vice versa. They've been best friends since elementary school, and met through some fandom-related happenstance. When they were younger they totally invaded each others houses and played whichever video game the other one didn't have, particularly some game called Arctic Fox that I'm most certainly not connecting to a Shadow Moses thing at all, and in that way trying to compare the two of them with Echo and I and what what are you talking about.

So we went over their house and Caroline had a friend over, who was apparently a Harry Potter fan. I always ask, "Who is your favorite character?" because that's how you determine what kind of HP fan a person is. Nearly everyone at camp was like, "Oh, I love Ron!" or "Hermione's really awesome!" Julia kind of shrugged and was like, "Well, I really like Remus Lupin..." And I gave her a giant high five and giggled like a maniac. Of course then she goes, "But sometimes I can't decide. I really like Snape too..." And then I couldn't give her a high five because I had passed out.

So she was a really big Owl City fan too, (Echo's already seen it, but here's their music video for Fireflies, which is the best song ever) and it seems that they're playing in Boston on the 18th. I don't know if I can go, but it would still be cool. =DDD

Apparently George has seen Silent Hill, and he was at a loss as to how I didn't find it the most frightening thing ever. So I explained the game parallels, and what they did, and at which parts I giggles, while George left is mouth open in awe, and his wife looked on disapprovingly. :3 He says, "But what about when the Pyramid guy ripped that lady's skin off!?" I said, "LOL  PYRAMIDHEAD DEFIES THE LAWS OF PHYSIOLOGY!" And then we started talking about Phantasmagoria, and don't get me started on that.

So we ordered Chinese food omnomnom and went downstairs to play old Three Stooges video games. Also, George proudly displayed his original Legend of Zelda game pack, and I was impressed as usual. (I mean, his house is like a video game museum or something; it's freaking awesome.) Also he has an old record player that's just amazing and gorgeous, and if I ever win the lottery I am going to find one somewhere and buy it.

After that, we watched this comedian act that was pretty funny, even though I fell asleep, per the usual. :3

So anyway, I finished up a bunch of my homework, so I can watch Hellboy with my dad and play PROFESSOR LAYTON OMG. I've started it, but only through the first few puzzles. But awww, emo!Layton, with his hat over his eyes and aw Layton do you need a Luke!hug~~~?

Edit: This is what happens when we visit George. I end up with loads and loads of tags. X3

And Who Has Time For Tears~?

There is nothing better than watching Silent Hill at midnight. Granted, I didn’t think it was very scary, but maybe that’s just because it was more like, “LOL IT’S PYRAMIDHEAD” and less “OMG HE’S GONNA RAPE ME TO DEATH.” Then again, things like that happened alot in this movie, where I was more giggly than scared... Let me go about this in a more organized manner.

'I'm burning!' says Alessa happily. I LOL'd a little bit. Actually alot. )

Edit: Actually, I remembered what I wanted to talk about. I find it interesting that Silent Hill takes on so many incarnations, and none of them seem more canon than the next. You have 1 and 3, with the religious crazies led by Dahlia and Alessa releasing God, and then 2, where SH is all Star Wars-like, where it's "only what you bring with you," or the movie where they burned Alessa as a witch and the Otherworld is her revenge (actually the movie has 3 Alessas, go figure.) Personally, I like the second one best, but that's just me.

ON A BETTER SILENT HILL NOTE:

So school's okay, I guess. Nothing particular to say about it, though Mr. Mintz is the only teacher who I actually know. No more Beeks, no more R Quad... I had to laugh, though. It says something when you get a sudden sense of comfort after the first time your teacher meows. Thank you, Mr. Mintz.

Although... Mrs. Stanley, my lit teacher, has two Star Wars posters and a Chamber of Secrets poster up in her classroom, so that seems promising. =DDD

Also, I'm psyched to have lunch with all the peeps this year. Of course, my first two lunches have been spent helping Echo explain Metal Gear to [info]artemisrampant. Mostly just the gay. Echo says it's "gayer than yaoi fanfiction" and it "makes the twins look straight." All of this is true.

So yeah, pretty much. I think I'm going to watch the Silent Hill movie, but I'm not sure yet. I dunno, maybe tomorrow night... I guess I'll think of more to say later. ^.^

(title from Mythbusters, btw)

"Otacon, get a grip!"

HOOOOOOUSE~

Okay. I'm still a little nervous about school, but I figure I'll manage alright. =)

Camp! Camp was awesome. I met so many people and I could just go on and on and on about it. It was so much more than just, 'oh you go to camp and here's a canoe.' It was... Almost a spiritual experience? You know, they do those things where you light candles and then cast them into the campfire, 'so that your flame will add to our fire of friendship, which will burn in our hearts even after we've left this circle,' etc. etc.

We have plenty of friendship, don't you worry. I was going to the bathroom one morning and Sierra comes in and sits in the stall next to me, and after about five seconds, she starts, "So Grace, how's your morning?" Who knew you could have a deep, meaningful conversation "while taking a dump?" It was such a big joke, because for Mini Musicals the cabin next to us (Rappahanock, even though they pronounced it wrap-a-hand-a-cock) wrote three full numbers about poop, and we basically had to listen to them rehearse for several days. But anyway.

There were a bunch of kids from Santa Fe, and for some reason I mostly hung out with them. Also I made another friend (who seriously looks like a tall Chevy) who lives about five to ten minutes away from my grandparents' condo. So I can hang out with her sometimes if I want. =D

Oh god, I can't even go over all the jokes; it would take too long. But I did find this one counselor who looked just like Mr. E from 6th grade, and all I did was make fun of him, because he really was full of himself. I swear, he would hit on anything that moved. And other jokes ensued that I'm not going to go into, but I ended up writing this thing for the talent show that was very popular, and maybe I'll post it some other time. Also, other counselors were great; Ted and I had a Star Trek discussion, Alison is the coolest ever, Katie learned the first half of the Thriller dance in about seven minutes... So yeah. I'll probably sporatically post more stories as I remember them.

Now I want to talk about Metal Gear. METAL GEAR!?

A Mother's Work...

Spock!

I was going to post  this whole happy thing about camp and Metal Gear, but I'll postpone it until tomorrow. I realize that shit happens, and that's how life is, but... There are some things I can't help but cry for.

If there is one thing I value, it's loyalty to the family that cares for you. )
otacon~

I want you to picture this. Or, picture it until you can’t or don't want to anymore.

Don't read in front of your mother, and keep the kiddies away. :3 )

OKAY. I think that's it for now. I'm going to be at camp for a while, but I'll post when I get back and all. Really I will. And also I want to plan that Serenity party, but it's probably going to be after school starts and all. Urgh. Oh well. =)
otacon~

I'm still perfectly aware that I haven't done a China post, or a SDCC post, and I was going to post this quite some time ago, but I was too lazy / neglectful.  On the other hand, I wasn't too lazy to plow through one and a half summer reading books, even though this second one makes very little sense. As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner. At one point, one of the characters is like, "I am a fish. Or I might be. Because that fish used to be a fish and it isn't anymore so now I must be one." Or something. And there are so many run-on sentences that follow the characters entire thought process, and they all have very long and sporadic thought processes.

BUT ENOUGH OF THAT. I AM GOING TO TALK ABOUT SILENT HILL, AND THEN METAL GEAR, AND THEN THE NEWEST DISCOVERIES CONCERNING METAL GEAR 4, INCLUDING THE GAYEST (and i mean that literally, really) THING I HAVE EVER BEEN WITNESS TO.

OMG SO MUCH FANDOM )

Anyway, I'm going to camp tomorrow, but I promise I'll talk about MGS4 before I go. =3 Oh, and for Echo, here's my MGS meme fo you. =DDD

Favorite character: Otacon! Snake is a close second, though.
Least favorite character: Rose… But I like her in MGS 3 with her monster movies and all. Maybe Naomi. But she was so cute with Sunny! Mmm… I guess Roy. I find him annoying. (Or maybe that’s just in the 4th one? I haven’t seen him in any other ones.) Grr this is hard.
Character with the best hair: Raiden. BECAUSE IT’S SO PRETTY. AND YES EMMA, IT’S TOTALLY NATURAL.
Character with the best eyes: Meryl, I’d say. Otacon has nice eyes, even though I wish he would keep his glasses on, dammit!
Character with the best smile: Sunny! She’s soooo cute~! Or Laughing Octopus, according tothis.
Character I'd most want to kiss: …Otacon?
Character I'd most likely have sex with: Um…
Character I'd make lunch for: Sunny, so she wouldn’t have to cook. =) Or maybe old!Snake, because he’s such a woobie. Also, Solidus needs some love. And for that matter, if zarla comics are anything to go by, young!Liquid needs a lunch so bad it’s not even funny. D=
Character I'd go singing in the rain with: Ocelot is really the only one who would sing in the rain. Well actually, Sunny. =DDD “Puddles! 1, 4, 2, 1, 1…”
Character I'd go shopping with: I imagine Raiden would know all about it. :3 But really, probably Sunny. Unless Snake was gun shopping, I’d tag along just because it would be fun. “Ooh, ooh, what does that one do, Snake?” (Now I’m thinking about the zarla comic with Big Boss doing the grocery shopping, and Solidus in the cart like, “Daddyyyy!? Why do IIII have sit in the caaaart?” X3)
Character I'd go dancing with: TOTALLY OCELOT, OMG DO WANT… EVEN MORE THAN OTACON!SMOOCHIES MAYBE. (But Raging Raven would make me laugh. “RAAAAGE!” “No, it’s called a rave. Not a rage.” “RAAAAGE!”
Character I'd take over the world with: Ocelot, again.
Character I most want to see more of: Ocelot’s finger guns.
Favorite pairing: Snake/Otacon, Ocelot/Big Boss, The Sorrow/The Joy, Ocelot/his moustache
Least favorite pairing: Campbell/Rose >>(  But man. Raiden is such a fail, his pregnant fiancee left him in a drunk stupor for some old man who is described by his own daughter as "a womanizing piece of shit." Ouch, Raiden. Ouch.

HBP Watch: Deux

POKEMANZ
Okay. So I went to go see HBP with Mum and [info]chevy_the_geek . A few more things noticed, but nothing too drastic. Well... One thing's a little drastic.

I realize fully that I never made a China post, and I ought to, but I'm terribly lazy right now and I can't rouse myself to do so. On the fandom end of things, which is much more manageable, I watched the first two Lord of the Rings films on the way home (THEY'RE TAKING THE HOBBITS TO ISEGARD!!!) and I really did like them. Aragorn is <33333 and is probably going to go on the List. I... Really should have something else to say about it? Gimli is funny and needs a crowning moment of awesome, I don't see how Arwen comes into this aside from making Aragorn miserable, Galadriel is a little creepy, but cool, I like Pippin and Merry, and Frodo reminds me very much of a Harry Potter, in the sense that he's emo with his burden and is no one's favorite character, even thought there's nothing unlikeable about him. Sam is totally a Ron.

And why, WHY couldn't Ian McKellan be Dumbledore? Not both Gandalf and Dumbles because that would be ridiculous, but just Dumbles. I mean... He would have been PERFECT! We wouldn't have had the GOF issue, and... Well, you know. He has the 'twinkly eyes' that Michael Gambon just doesn't.

I also finished Ouuuuuraaaan~ Oh God. I don't think I have enough time right now to do it justice, in fact, I'll make an Ouran post later, I think. Right. Because I watched the last episode on the bus ride the the Great Wall, and I almost started to cry, and... Yeah. I loved it. BRB on that.

Seeing HBP gave me a little bit of a boost, and now I'm cranking out new pieces of the Life's Work, which is always a good thing. Also character development, (finally!) for some of those OC peeps who hadn't gotten a whole lot of attention before. Also, I have Snape hanging out outside the gates until they take down the Dark Mark; I liked that addition to the movie, so I'm adding it to headcanon.

SO OKAY. I'm going to go pack for Comic Coooooon! I'l post my supposed schedule later, and I really should ask [info]zarla  if she's going this year. Maybe not, since she's been doing alot of (super super cute) MGS comics-

Did I mention that I started playing Metal Gear? The second one. Otacon is so cuuuuuuute~ OKAY  TALK ABOUT THAT LATER GOTTA GO PACK BAI NAO~

NO NO NO REALLY QUICK: I had a dream last night that I had to write an in-class paper about commas and their usage, and I started it by quoting Shoebox, "Repeat after me, Mr. Black. I do believe in commas. I do, I do, I do." OKAY BYE

Farewell!

  • Jun. 29th, 2009 at 3:41 PM
Halloween!Giles

And goodnight! Tomorrow I''m off to a Communist country where I shall no doubt be thrown in front of a rickshaw by the most dreaded Beekbeast, after which my brains will be scooped up either by the aforementioned Beeks, who will stick it in an ice cream cone and eat it with rainbow sprinkles, or a poor noodle vendor who will mush it up and sell it to some unsuspecting tourist.

Or something. XDDD

I'll post when I get back, not only about China, but about the last few Ouran episodes I'll watch, as well as a few movies (Fanboys, Love Actually WTK is up with my taste in movies it's all over the map) and my commentary (fasten your seatbelts it's a comm-en-tar-y~) on Half Blood Prince, which I suspect will take me about eight or nine hours to read, leaving me with at least ten more hours for whatever just on that one flight.

I must ask, wouldn't you think a plane from Boston to California and then Hong Kong would be a good idea? Who came up with the plan to go from Boston to Newark (New Jersey) to Hong Kong? It makes no logical sense, so much so that you wouldn't need pointy ears to recognize how illogical it is. Anyway, so we leave in the morning for a 2 hour flight to NJ, there's a layover of about 4 hours (argh) and then 18 or so hours to Hong Kong. Whoo... But hey, I shouldn't be complaining. It'll be awesome, I keep telling myself, mostly to offset Mum who's like, "ASDFGHJKLKJHGFDS
DFGHHJKLKJHGJFOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGYOU'RE GOING TO DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE~"

But I'm not going to die, unless the events of the first paragraph become an unfortunate reality.

DDD=
